Big Band „but is it art?“

About the Big Band:

The 18-piece ensemble was originally founded by Florian Oppenrieder from Murnau to provide the music for the opening ceremony of the 2007 World Rowing Championships in Munich and made its first appearance in front of an audience of more than 10,000.
Almost half of the musicians in the big band come from Murnau and the surrounding area. However, this regional connection is – to quote a review in the Münchner Merkur – “…only half the truth: in fact, the line-up on this evening reads like a who’s who of the Munich jazz scene…”.
The orchestra’s repertoire is like a swinging journey through all eras of big band jazz. Works by Duke Ellington, interpretations by Frank Sinatra, but also compositions and arrangements by contemporary musicians can be heard

About the aid project:

Supporting children in need as part of local and international projects is a matter close to the heart of Menschen Helfen e.V. from Seehausen. In 1991, young people who were affected by the suffering of the population during the Croatian war came together and organized aid transports to the war zone. The aid association was then founded – the aim was to create a permanent framework for supporting those in need. This was followed by projects in Bosnia and Romania, but from then on the association also supported kindergartens and people affected by disasters in its home region. 100% of the proceeds from the kultURKNALL festival and all donations go towards the association’s own aid projects, currently mainly in the Republic of Moldova. There, “Menschen Helfen e.V.” finances the running costs of the children’s day care center in Grigorauca.

Despite the difficult circumstances in Moldova, the association’s children’s center tries to give the children there as carefree a childhood as possible. In addition to a hot meal, theater and sports activities are offered, and manual, language and IT skills are taught and promoted. Today, this help is more important than ever. After heating materials became extremely expensive due to the war in Ukraine next door in Moldova, the association is currently organizing wood and food purchases to get the people in Grigorauca through the coming winter. This winter aid is the prerequisite for being able to reliably continue the work at the children’s center. All proceeds from the concert will therefore go towards winter aid for the children’s day care center in Grigorauca.
